2007 saw the status of geeks continue to rise, with Facebook addicting the masses, and both Nerds and the mainstream lusting after the iPhone.

Yes, it's becoming cooler to be a geek, but as we've said before, there's no need to be utterly clueless when it comes to fashion. This article will give you a chance to learn from the worst of geek fashion.

Worst Dressed Nerds of 2007...

6. Linus Torvalds

Linus is a software engineer best known for initiating the development of the Linux kernel. His software may be up to date but Linus’s swooping side part was a hit in the 80s and thank God died in the 80s. The hairstyle has got to go and I’m certain any woman would agree with us. Remember to not grow your hair too long; short and simple is always the way to go. Linus also has the worst pair of glasses that we have seen in a long time! The big circle frames make him look like a dork and makes it hard to take the guy seriously. Keep your frames narrow, they are only meant to cover your eyes, not half your face. By only fixing those two little fashion blunders Linus’s look would improve ten fold!!!

5. Dwight Schrute

Dwight may make us laugh as the geeky fictional character on NBC’s The Office but make no mistake gentleman, his geeky look is partly why we ladies are laughing. Having your hair parted in the middle was fine when you were five but it is a style that should not be embraced by anyone over the age of twelve. His sideburns are also too long and messy. Keep those sideburns in check. We also suggest sticking to long sleeved collared shirts instead of short sleeves. If it is hot outside try wearing a collared golf shirt or rolling up your sleeves. And once again, the glasses are too big for his face.

4. John Carmack

John is a video game developer in desperate need of a haircut or his dating life may be doomed. Long hair on men is not fashionable and is something that should be left for Fabio or other equally conceited male models. First off, girls are very proud of their hair and the last thing they want to do is date a guy with better hair than their own. They also don’t want a guy who is going to be fussy about his hair or have people confuse him for a woman from the back. Women want manly men so please, if you have long hair, cut it!!! John’s glasses are also too big for his face and too round. When picking out glasses try to buy lenses that are narrower; look for square or oval shapes. And last but not least, John t-shirt is from a city event and reeks of being a free t-shirt handed out to anyone who attended. Not very stylish John!

3. Bill Gates

Bill may be the chairman of Microsoft but he looks like an average out of date dad, and not many women find that look particularly appealing. Bill’s shaggy and dated hair is the first thing a woman will look at. If you have hair similar to Bill’s go to a hair salon and have a stylist (not a barber) update it with a fresher, younger look. Also have them teach you how to use product in your hair to keep it looking well maintained and modern. Don’t worry too much if this costs more than you are used to spending on a hair cut. You should only have to go to a good stylist once to have the more dramatic cut you need and then the style can be maintained almost anywhere you go. We also don’t love the plaid shirt underneath Bill’s jacket. Keep your shirts simple and if you want a pattern opt for stripes rather than squares.

2. Rob Malda

Rob is the founder of the website Slashdot, and although his site is geeky in a cool way, his look is just plain geeky. What is with guys wanting to wear Hawaiian shirts?! Hawaiian shirts are for sleazy old men on a Caribbean cruise. Having giant pineapples on your shirt will do nothing for your look and may cause your date to crave a tropical smoothie more than a second date. The goatee is also not very flattering on Rob and we think he would look much better without it. Most women prefer a man without any facial hair and although some men look good with a well trimmed beard or some day old stubble it’s usually not worth the risk. Keep your hair short and lose the facial hair.

1. Richard Stallman

Richard is a hacker and software developer but he looks like a cave man sent forward in time. Most women would be scared to run into him in a dark alley and if you are reading this site my guess is you are trying to attract a lady not send her running away screaming. Please shave regularly and if you insist on having facial hair keep it neat and trimmed. Don’t be like Richard and have your hair get the best of you, tame that beast or accept a life of solitude. Richard’s sloppy, old golf shirt is also a big no-no. We wouldn’t be surprised to find a couple of holes in it somewhere and pit stains to boot. If your shirt has lost its original shape and hangs on you like an old sock, be a man and throw the thing out!!!
